GRAND FINAL of THE WORLD will be held in Hong Kong on Sunday December 4 for the first time in 3 years. World's leading players such as Boris Krcmar and Paul Lim agree that〝GRAND FINAL" is the ultimate tournament to name the genuine world champion.
Only 16 players can compete in the tournament. Half of the spots will go to top 8 players of THE WORLD 2016 ranking. Keita Ono of Japan has already obtained the GRAND FINAL spot as the winner of THE WORLD 2016 PREMIUM STAGE. Remaining 7 spots will be for the winners of WILD CARD TOURNAMENT that is scheduled to be on Friday December 2 at the same venue with GRAND FINAL.

The TOP8 borderline of the annual ranking is expected to be around 95 to 100 points. Based on this expectation, we could probably say that the 4 players who finished STAGE 4 with over 100 points are sure to participate in the GRAND FINAL. They are Boris Krcmar, Paul Lim, Alex Reyes and Leonard Gates. The current number 5, Yuji Eguchi has 83 points, but based on his performance of this season, he is almost sure to get over the 100 points.
Rank | Point |
---|---|
Champion | 42 pts |
2nd place | 35 pts |
BEST4 | 29 pts |
BEST8 | 24 pts |
BEST16 | 20 pts |
BEST32 | 17 pts |
BEST64 | 15 pts |
BEST128 or below | 10 pts |
Different from the top 5, we should say that current top 6 to 8 can be replaced by other players in the final stage. At this time, Park Hyunchul, and Mitsumasa Hoshino tied for the 6th and Sho katsumi is on the 8th. They need to earn at least 20 points at the final stage to maintain their position.
In other words, some players who are now on the 9th or lower may be able to go to GRAND FINAL if they performe outstandingly in the upcoming stage. So there is still chance for Harith Lim on the 9th, Royden Lam and Yutaro Sato who tied for the10th, and Adrian Gray on the 12th who is earning points steadily. It is for sure that those players will show excellent performance in STAGE 5. We can't wait to see how the stage turns out and how far those players can go. Although it is not easy but not impossible for Tony Martin and Scott Kirchner who tied for the 17th. Shunpei Noge may be able to advance to GRAND FINAL if he can win the stage.
THE WORLD 2016 STAGE 5 will be in Malaysia on Sunday, October 23.
